Chaurasi Temple Bharmour

History
Bharmour is known for its ancient temples. There are also such temples which were built in 10 century.  It is called as Shiv Bhumi because this place is known to be home of Lord Shiva and an interesting thing about it is that there is only one temple in the world named as Dharamraj (Yamraj) which is situated at Chaurasi Temple Bharmour.
Chaurasi Temple
Which is located in the center of Bharmour  and it holds immense religious importance because of temples built around 1400 years ago. Chaurasi, named so because of 84 shrines built in the periphery of Chaurasi Temple. Chaurasi means 84 in Hindi. The beautiful Shikhara style temple of Lord Shiva  occupies the center of the complex. It is believed that when 84 Siddhas, who had come from kurukshetra, were passing through Bharmour to visit Manimahesh, they fell in love with the calmness of Bharmour and reconciled to meditate here. Chaurasi Temple Complex was built approximately in 7th century, although repairs of many temples have been carried out in later period.
There is another legend associated with Chaurasi temple complex. It is believed that shortly after Sahil Varman’s rise of Brahampura (ancient name of Bharmour), 84 yogis visited this place and fell in love with the beauty and calmness of the place and they were greatly pleased with the King’s hospitality. As King had no heir, Yogis promised him ten sons. They were requested by the King to stay back in Brahampura till the prediction of Yogis was fulfilled. In due course of time the king was pleased with ten sons and a daughter. Daughter was named Champavati and because of liking of Champavati new capital Chamba was established. It is believed that Chaurasi temple complex in Bharmour was built to honour these 84 Yogis and named Chaurasi after them. There are 84 big and small temples in Chaurasi temple complex. Chaurasi is a spacious level ground in center of Bharmour where the galaxy of temples mostly in the form of Shivlingas exists. The Chaurasi Temple Complex offers a enjoyable, clean and a lovely view.

The DC, who is also the chairperson of the committee, said Governor Acharya Devvrat would inaugurate the famous fair while Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh would be the chief guest on the concluding day of the fair .

Minjar Mela is a famous festival in Chamba in Himachal Pradesh. Minjar means ‘tassels’ and Mela means ‘fair’. During the festival people sacrifice Minja in the Ravi Riverto drive away the evil spirits and pray for their prosperity.

The main attraction of the festival is a huge fair, folk dances and other folk programs.
Minjar Mela Story – Why Minjar Mela is Held?

Legend has it that the Ravi River used to flow between Champawati Temple and Hari Rai Temple in Chamba. People found it difficult to visit both the temple together.

Then Raja of Himachal Pradesh asked a saint to make the temples easily accessible to people.

The saint then performed a yajna at the ChampavatiTemple. Several sadhus participated in the yajna which was witnessed by the king and his subjects.

During the yajna sadhus used a colored stick called Minjar. As a result of the Yajna the course of Ravi River changed and people could easily access both the temples.

The fair is held in remembrance of this event.
